The project was a cluster of buildings on the podium. Although the buildings looked similar, the challenge was that they had very different arrangements on the roofs. Since a BMU sits on the roof, we had to treat them as individual projects. Extensive collaboration with the client meant we were able to come up with a single formula design for the entire project with the only differences being the length of the BMU jib and mast height. The final solution was a telescopic BMU on rails on an elevated platform situated on every building which was a cost-effective solution.
Expo Village is made up of 15 mid-rise buildings in four clusters on the Expo 2020 Dubai legacy site. There are 2,273 apartments with some having a full view of the Al Wasl Dome at the heart of the Expo legacy site. The entrance to the Expo 2020 Dubai metro line is a minute’s walk from each cluster. The residential complex is designed for mixed-community living. Each cluster has a swimming pool, gym and children’s playground and there are 42 retail and food and beverage units within the site.
